Roger Charlton expecting Cityscape to deliver
Trainer Roger Charlton is expecting Cityscape to pick his game up and deliver some great results for his team, especially after the retirement of former great champions Frankel and Excelebration.
“He has come to hand well in the last couple of weeks,” he said. “He went quite well fresh last year. I don't think he needs a lot of work. He has been remarkably consistent and with the odd exception has always been thereabouts. He's been frustratingly
beaten in quite a lot of Group 1 races but he maintained his level right the way through.”
He added, “This year he has a clear run of things since Frankel retired and on official ratings I guess you could argue he is the best miler that remains in training in Europe but there are other improving horses coming along, Declaration Of War is a good
example, and we need to produce our best performance to try to win a Group 1 race.”
The seven-year-old horse has got a pretty decent record and has been performing really well for his team over the years. He doesn’t have a decent winning percentage, which means that he has been unable to win races with consistency, but that does not mean
that he lacks the potential to deliver top quality results.
He has appeared in a total of 22 events and has managed to win six of them until now. Judging by this, one can easily say that he is not amongst the greatest runners of all time. However, the statistics can be misleading at times and the seasoned runner
has really been giving his 100 percent every time he stepped onto a race track.
Other than his victories, Cityscape has finished as a runner up on nine occasions whereas claimed the third spot twice in his career. This clearly shows that he has the potential to fight at the front regularly and he doesn’t like settling for lower positions.
The 2012 season was not a very good one for the veteran stallion, but he will be looking to make a strong impression with some solid victories in the upcoming events this year.
