Roger Clemens indicted in a steroid case once again
The six-time Major League Baseball’s Cy Young Pitcher Award holder Roger Clemens is set to go to jail according to media reports. He has been charged for lying about his steroid abuse during his tenure at MLB. He will be joining a group of MLB ball players who have been accused of cheating if convicted.
The 48-year-old All Star has been indicated on six counts by the federal grand jury in Washington, which includes making false statements, obstructing Congress and perjury. If he is found guilty, Roger Clemens will face 21 months in prison according to the prosecutors under U.S. sentencing guidelines.
The right hand pitcher is also known as “the Rocket” because of his ability to pitch the ball at lightning fast speed. Clemens was accused of using steroids for the first time in 2008 by his former trainer due to which a U.S. House of Representatives Committee held a hearing regarding the accusation. Clemens testified and swore in his statement that he had never used steroids or HGH in his entire career in Major League Baseball.
The indictment stated, “As Clemens well knew when he gave his testimony, Clemens knowingly received injections of anabolic steroids while he was an MLB player”.
According to various media outlets, Hardin refused to respond to phone calls and any e-mails sent to him relating to court hearing this year. Pat Courtney MLB’s spokes man also refused to comment regarding the situation.
In the indictment this year, Roger Clemens is accused of bluntly lying about the injections given to him by his strength coach during his tenure with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. According to the prosecutors, Clemens took HGH shots which were barred by MLB in 2005 and steroids to enhance performance.
Kurt Bardella, the spokesman for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said, “If there is evidence that someone has intentionally misled a congressional investigative committee, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible”.
Roger Clemens retired from the MLB in 2007 and is known to be one of the best pitchers ever to step foot in the league. He has been selected for the All Star team on 11 occasions and has won 2 World Series Championships with a record of winning Al Cy Young Award 6 times. Clemens has played for four of the most favoured franchises in Major League Baseball including the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros and the New York Yankees.
