Roger Clemens maintains a low profile on case queries
Roger Clemens is known in baseball history as one of the most entertaining figures when it comes to controversial moments on the field and off the field.
From being involved in countless s*x scandals, to hitting players with ball deliveries, Clemens has cemented his place in baseball annals, as one of the most volatile personalities to take the mound for pitching duty.
Now with a prison sentence looking like a possible reality, Clemens is continuing to spark controversy over a baseball awkward moment, which occurred in the past when he used to play for the New York Yankees.
The former pitcher took out the time at the Connecticut Sports Foundation to talk of the incident that involved him and former New York Mets’ catcher, Mike Piazza.
Clemens threw a broken bat at Mike Piazza after the slugger managed a hit to the first base. The incident took place in the 2000 World Series. Mike smashed Clemens’ pitch for a run to the first but his bat broke mid air. His shattered bat flew to Roger Clemens
on the mound and landed on the pitcher’s feet. The player picked the shattered bat up and threw it at Piazza’s face.
"I just remember my form being really good when I threw the bat", Clemens. "My form was impeccable. I fielded it perfectly. My arm angle when I whistled it on-deck was a little low".
Clemens had a reason for doing what he did but that didn’t stop the matter from becoming a controversial one. Though the pitcher called Piazza after the game, the catcher never replied to his calls.
"I think I pitched 24 years in the major leagues and I think I missed up above the shoulders three times," Clemens said. "Just like I tell any kids or any professional or anytime I get to talk in public, you don't pitch inside to hit people".
Clemens is facing charges for lying to Congress about his use of performance enhanced drugs during his career. He’s up for a sentence, and that is one of the things he avoided talking about,  at the fundraising event.
No matter what happens, Roger Clemens remains to be a controversial figure in baseball. Time can only dictate where the player will stand in the coming days.
