Roger Federer, Milos Raonic receives awards at ATP World Tour Awards ceremony – Tennis News
Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, received an honorary award from the award distribution ceremony conducted by Association of Tennis Professionals in London’s most revered tennis sporting arena, O2 Arena.
Former World No.1, Roger Federer, was awarded the winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award plus ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite by RICOH. Executive Chairman & President Adam Helfant and his friend, RICOH Europe’s Director of Corporate Communications Javier Diez-Aguirre, awarded the both trophies that were designed and manufactured by Tipperary Crystal to the tennis legend.
30-year-old Swiss accepted both awards and delightfully proclaimed his happiness on achieving yet another milestone in his record breaking career.
He said “Many awards now. It’s 22 from the ATP [World Tour Awards] and nine straight Fans’ Favourite. I can only thank them as many times as I already have, through the TV, through websites and when I see them and sign autographs and speak to them, how friendly they always are with me, and how nice it is to be well-liked, really. It’s nice to have so many fans all around the world.”
Roger Federer was not the only star guest at the show as he was accompanied by one of the most talented youngsters in the world of tennis, Milos Raonic, who was awarded ATP World Tour Newcomer of the Year which was presented by the event organizers Moët & Chandon.
World No.4, Federer, might not have enjoyed as many titles as he would have liked but he has achieved everything, a player can only dream off. He ruled the world of tennis for almost a decade and now the aging factor has started playing a part that has depleted his game play but still he is capable of turning things around at any stage of the match.
World No.31, Milos Raonic, expressed his delight on achieving such a marvellous milestone in following words “It’s an amazing experience and an amazing honour, especially coming from other player. It means a lot to me to have that respect from the other players and to be getting that kind of appreciation.”
Raonic has been one of the most prolific performers of the year and has compiled an exciting 31-19 win-loss record. His non-stop outstanding performance reaped him successful returns in the form of a title triumph at San Jose, where he defeated Fernando Verdasco. He also made it to the final in Memphis but lost to American former world No.1, Andy Roddick.
Other sporting icons that attended the ceremony included the likes of Chelsea footballer, Juan Mata, WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye and former Genesis front man Peter Gabriel.
