Roger Federer, “Strike is nonsense. It's not going to happen any time soon” – Tennis News
Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, has been very critical of the fact that players are even thinking of the some kind of strike against ATP on scheduling contradictions. He said “It's not been an option really, in my opinion. Next year's
season is going to be shortened by two weeks.”
Earlier this year, Briton No.1, Andy Murray, hinted that players might go on strike if they don’t have any sort of agreement with the ATP officials on scheduling issues. This year had very hectic for all the top performers as they
have been travelling from one place to another through the year to play several tournaments that ended up with some injuries for number of elite performers like Novak Djokovic and now Rafael Nadal as well.
There was one time when World No.2, Rafael Nadal, had to play three matches in three successive days that can be disastrous for player’s career as it can inflict some major injury. Playing more than 6 hours of tennis in 36 hours
can cause severe dehydration and exhausts the stamina for the rest of the tournament matches as well. Players need rest to regain the composure and energy to give their 100% at the field.
Roger Federer also took time off from professional circuit and didn’t participate in Shanghai Open due to fatigue. But he has struck against all those players that intimated that players will go on strike. While conducting a press
conference in London after his third consecutive victory in the group stage of ATP Tour Finals, he said “That's I think as much as we can squeeze it really because otherwise a lot of tournaments would have to go or we would have four tournaments the same week,
which I don't think is a very smart idea, to be honest, for the game.”
Swiss tennis icon further added that everything is fine at the moment and there is no point talking about that nonsense. He doesn’t sees anything like that in foreseeable future because everyone is fine with the schedule and with
the shortened season next year, there should be no problem for any player.
He said “It is nonsense. It's not going to happen any time soon. Things are good right now, so I don't see a reason why we should just boycott. There's absolutely no reason for it."
