Roger Federer: Performance Review of 2012 - Tennis Special

Many predicted that former world number one, Roger Federer, would not be able to win more Grand Slams, especially after his mixed performances in 2011.
However, one of the greatest players of all times produced some memorable performances this year and managed to claim his 17th Grand Slam title.
Although he would have wanted to achieve a lot more, yet he will be satisfied with his overall performances. He has got a very good chance of adding a few more Majors to his name, but will have to stay fit like he has been over
the years.
Things did not start off badly for the Swiss player at the start of 2012, as he managed to be competitive in the Australian Open in January. He battled hard in the tournament, but was knocked out in the semi-final by the Spaniard,
Rafael Nadal.
Despite that, he did not lose hope and kept on working hard in the coming months. His first major success came in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells and that gave him the confidence to take on the likes of Novak Djokovic
and Andy Murray.
After winning a couple of important events, Federer went onto compete in the Roland Garros in France, but was once again unable to make it to the final of the tournament. This time, he was knocked out by Djokovic in the semi-final
of the event.
However, things changed when the former world number one headed to Wimbledon to compete on grass courts. He likes this surface the most and eased through the first couple of rounds over his inexperienced rivals.
He had a couple of scary games afterwards, as he almost suffered upset defeats in them. Despite that, he kept his cool and managed to make it to the final four, where he met Djokovic again.
The Serbian player was on top of his game, but he failed to stop the greatest champion in the history of the sport. He was defeated in a four set match and Federer advanced to the final to take on Andy Murray.
The Scottish player gave a spirited performance, but Federer was too good for him in the end. The Swiss champion regained his number one spot and went onto win the Olympics Silver afterwards.
However, he ended the season with a defeat against Djokovic, who is now ranked as number one, despite having a mixed year.
