Roger Federer: Whats next for him?
The former World Number One professional tennis player from Switzerland, Roger Federer’s capacity for excellence has led to some critical wriggle with being second best over the last few years. Ever since his whammy, Rafael Nadal, jumped to the world number one spot after the classic 2008 grass court Grand Slam final, the tennis master Roger Federer has never been the one every world is accustomed with.
Things simply got even poorer for him.
Roger Federer, some few days ago after the grass court Grand Slam tournament this year, fell down to number three position in the world’s rankings. Thus, the winner of a total of sixteen Grand Slam titles was placed behind Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic according to the ATP’s world rankings on the very first occasion after a period of seven years.
Federer was knocked down by a young Czech tennis ace Thomas Berdych who snatched the quarterfinal victory in a total of four sets.
“The Fed Express,” as he is named by his beloved fancier, has displayed little affinity to the Roger Federer who was once irresistible, contesting in a total of twenty three straight Grand Slam semi final clashes until Robin Soderling ended the streak at the Roland Garros this season. Even after beginning his 2010 journey with an Australian Open trophy, Federer cannot appear to find his form on the surface.
A world class player who was once edging on genius has now reassured that he is in reality a human. While the Swiss tennis player’s only kryptonite prior to the season 2008 was the blend of Rafa and clay, Federer however is no more a fleeting preferred player in any contest.
The facts do represents the reality. If the Swiss tennis ace loses three more contests this season, he will have lost as many contests in a period of two years stretching from 2008 to 2010 as he actually lost from 2003 to 2007. Moreover, Federer has also knocked down by a total of eighteen different challengers since starting his declining slide back in 2008, just three less as compared to the twenty one years old player who hammered down the Swiss professional following his star studded 2003 year.
Another interesting fact is that a lot of players who had defeated Federer during the initial phases of his professional life such as Jiri Novak as well as Gustavo Kuerten soon announced their retirement from the professional tennis after doing so as a result of age. However, the sad story is that how quickly the best tennis player of all times is losing his grip from the international tennis circuit who has dominated for so long and has knocked down a great variety of significant players.
Previously, Rafa used to be the only player who could repetitively solve Roger’s destructive style of game, even on the grass courts. However, these days, Roger Federer is simply a mediocre hard challenger, as ludicrous as that may sound to excite the tennis lovers.
In other manner, the sport’s biggest ambassador’s period of absolute dominance has reached towards its climax, no doubts what so ever. The Rafa period has started, and it won’t be lengthy before someone, probably Djokovic, surpasses Federer as Rafa’s greatest terror on all kinds of surfaces.
What the future has in store for the third ranked Swiss tennis player Roger Federer is pretty vague. He will definitely be hoping to win the upcoming United States Open championship which would be his sixth US trophy.
In spite of all the rumours about Federer’s decline and Rafa’s dominance, the Swiss tennis ace who lives in Wollerau along with his wife Mirka Vavrinec and two twin kids, has never actually said anything so far about his retirement from the professional tennis in the near future.
