Born on 8 August 1981 in the city of Basel, Roger Federer is a professional tennis star from Switzerland. The 29-year-old Roger has held the top rankings for a record two hundred and thirty seven weeks in a row and two hundred and eighty five weeks overall,
one week behind the record-holder American, Pete Sampras. As of 16th September 2010, the Swiss tennis maestro is ranked number three in the world by the Association of tennis professionals (ATP). A great variety of tennis experts, critics and analysts
along with the former and active players on the tour regard him as the greatest tennis player of all times.
As far as his 2010 performances are concerned, the right-handed Federer started the season by competing at the Australian Open, as his first tournament of the year. The winner of sixteen Grand Slam titles did well to reach the final after taking down a couple
of important players in the competition. In the title battle, the Swiss met the world number one Brit, Andy Murray and successfully got the better of him in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6–3, 6–4, 7–6(11). Federer had already defeated the
Scottish in the final of the United States Open tennis tournament back in 2008 so it was not a big deal for the tennis great.
The 2010 Australian Open champ next played at the Madrid Open tennis tournament, where he once again reached the final, however, this time lost to the current world number one, Rafael Nadal in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 7-6.
At the Canadian Masters this season, the right-handed Roger was defeated by Andy Murray in the title battle in straight sets. Federer next competed at the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament, where he won his first title after a total of eight complete
months, knocking down Mardy Fish in straight sets.
Back at the major tournaments, the 1.85 meters tall Roger couldn’t manage to make his way into the semi-final round of the French Open 2010 on the very first occasion after a period of six years. He was toppled by his Swedish tennis foe, Robin Soderling
in the quarters in a total of four sets. The final match score was 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Rafael captured the title for the fifth time and replaced Roger as the top-ranked player in the world.
In preparation for the grass court Grand Slam championship, the Basel-born once again played in Halle, however, was outlasted in the title match by Lleyton Hewitt. The final match score was 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. This was the first time since 2001 that the Fed
Express appeared at Wimbledon having grabbed just a single title throughout the year.

every one by falling at the hands of Tomas Berdych in a total of four sets. The final match score was 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. As a result, he dropped down in rankings to world number there by ATP on the very first occasion after seven years.
