Roger Federer accepts he got tired due to continuous tennis– Tennis News
New world number three, Roger Federer of Switzerland, bowed out of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia before reaching the title match and accepted later on that he was fatigued after playing non-stop tennis.
The most accomplished player in tennis’ history was already in doubt of participating in Rome Masters before the start of event due to tiredness.
This is a proof that Federer has now gone old and he can’t match the fitness of his top two rivals these days, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Although, Federer is at par with both of them if we look at the level of shot making
but the 30-year-old has fallen behind his much younger opponents in respect of fitness. Federer was beaten by the reigning world number one, Djokovic, in straight sets 2-6, 6-7(4) in the semi-final of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Rome, Italy.
The Swiss Maestro was looking in top form, as he had grabbed title at the Mutua Madrid Open in the previous week and was playing quite well on the red clay courts of Foro Italico. However, Federer was not too dejected by the loss
and shared that he has welcomed this break ahead of the Roland Garros.
The Swiss said continuous late night tennis for two weeks had taken a huge toll on him and that is why he was unable to play at this best against Djokovic.
He said, "I'm very excited but very tired. I've been living and breathing tennis every day. I'm looking forward to some days off and getting ready for Paris. I'm happy in some ways that the event is over for me."
Federer added that he is happy to be spending some time with his family. He said, "We've got two kids running, they're growing up. We have a lot on our plate. This is the best time of my life and I wouldn't change it for anything. But I like to put the kids
to bed and that's impossible with the schedule I've had over the last two weeks. Don't feel bad for me, I'm okay with it all.”
The 16-time Grand Slam winner is leading the ATP World Tour with four titles in this season. After losing to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open semi-finals, Federer defeated Juan Martin Del Potro to win the ABN AMRO World Tennis
Tournament. Continuing with his supreme form, the Swiss Maestro toppled Andy Murray and John Isner in the finals to clinch the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and BNP Paribas Open respectively.
Federer faced a shocking loss at the hands of old American rival, Andy Roddick, in the round of 32 at the Sony Ericsson Open. Skipping the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, he took a month long break from competitive tennis to recharge
his batteries before starting his clay court season. The trick worked, as a refreshed Federer downed Czech contender, Tomas Berdych, to lift the Mutua Madrid Open crown.
Meanwhile, Djokovic will try to defend his title, as he taken on King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia final.
