Roger Federer aims ‘to go on’ in the foreseeable future – Tennis News
Former world number one, Roger Federer, gobbled up a title win Dubai on Saturday, defeating the British number one, Andy Murray, in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Championships. It was his fifth title in this part of the world;
on winning the title, the Swiss Maestro confessed that his only aim is just “to go on”.
Why wouldn’t he want to wish that? He is still on top of his game at the age of 30 and no one can still meet his class or power him down at any stage. He has only seen a competition except the likes of world number one, Novak Djokovic
and Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, only because he is aging; otherwise no one can inch nearer to his class and temperament.
He is on a 10 match unbeaten run at the moment that has enabled him to bag two more titles that has taken his majestic total titles tally to 72. He won title in Rotterdam, defeating the Argentine professional, Juan Martin Del Potro
and then dumped Murray to win in Dubai.
Federer has been the victim to three players in 2012; Rafael Nadal in the semi-final of the Australian Open, John Isner in the Davis Cup tie against tie and withdrew in the semi-final of Qatar ExxonMobil Open; was slated to play
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in that match. Other than that, he has won eighteen matches this season and looks set to break few more records before entering the London Olympics in June.
He was reported to have said in Dubai, “I'm defending a lot better than half of last year, when I felt like I could not leave the most difficult defensive positions. I expect very difficult games against the best players.” He was
happy to have ended another week with a title to his name and regarded it to be the ‘perfect preparation for the tournament in America’.
Up next for Federer are two major tournaments, the Indian Wells and Miami. He will look to nail down his opponents in both these events and look to boost his stamina for another shot at the Olympics gold medal in London. He is
in the best form at the moment and definitely a very strong contender to win titles in Miami and Indian Wells along with the other two superior ranked players, Djokovic and Nadal. It ensures another exciting season for all tennis fanatics.
