Roger Federer backs Andy Murray for more drug tests in a calendar year – Tennis News
Former world number one, Roger Federer, has assisted the cause of the third ranked Briton star, Andy Murray, who is asking for more drug tests over the course of years just to make sure that the game play at the tennis court is
smooth and fair. Federer who lost the number one rank to the Serbian superstar, Novak Djokovic, after withdrawing from the Master event in Paris was happy to handover the best player spot to the man who deserved to have it. He had no grief of losing the number
one rank but did sent a strong message to the 25-year-old Serb that he will comeback hard and do everything what it takes to reclaim the throne.
Commenting about the drug tests conducted every year, Federer said, “I feel I'm being tested less now than six or seven years ago." He further added, “I agree with Andy, we do not do a lot of blood-testing during the year. I'm
fine about having more of that. I think it's important to have enough tests out there. I don't like it when I am not being tested enough during the year. I think they should up it. It is vital the sport stays clean. We have had a good history and we want to
ensure it stays that way.”
It seems like the plot is set against the Spanish players who are accused of using drugs during the matches. Seven-time French Open Champion, Rafael Nadal, was accused by the French media for using drugs to boost the stamina and
energy that was unfair. However, the entire onslaught from the Spanish Tennis Federation along with the players on this baseless claim helped to bury the case quickly but the pressure from Federer and Murray seems to ignite the same case. However, they are
not pointing any fingers yet the intention seems to hit at the Top-2 Spanish players, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer.
At the moment, Nadal is out of action since June due to a niggling knee injury that has always troubled him throughout his career but his compatriot, the fifth ranked Ferrer is rocking the show. He just won his first Masters title
of the career at Paris and added seven titles to his tally this year which makes him the most titles holder of the current season. Something is cooking amongst the top players which will come at the surface shortly. Let’s hope nothing hurts the flare of tennis.
