Roger Federer breezes into the third round at Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters
World number three Swiss Roger Federer slew 27-year-old German Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets to advance into the third round at 2011 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters on Tuesday.
Season’s unbeaten Serb Novak Djokovic could not take part in the tournament due to injury, making the Swiss second seed at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. He is in his top form this season and won the title at Doha in the start of
the season. The 29-year-old then made a semi-final berth at Australian Open, Indian Wells and reached final at Dubai before losing to the World number two Serb on all three occasions. Before entering this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event, he reached the semi-finals
at Miami before losing to top seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
The Swiss Ace earned a breadstick to trash the German out of this tournament in just 51 minutes. He registered a 6-2, 6-1 win over the world number 32, Kohlschreiber and extended his lead in their head-to-head series by 6-0.
The pair had last met at Cincinnati where Federer earned a walkover win.
The Swiss displayed top notch performance as he went on rage mode at the start of the opening set. He reeled off first three games in a row through his awe-inspiring skills. Later Federer broke the German’s serve in the eighth
game again to win the set with a convincing 6-2 score line.
Federer converted two out of two breakpoints for an easy first set victory over the German. He earned 82 percent on his first serve and hammered 11 winners.
He carried his winning ways into the second set and with the same rage he won the first three games in a row. His rival kept his serve in the proceeding game but the Swiss destroyed Kohlschreiber by winning next three games.
Federer sealed the match with a breadstick after displaying exceptional skills in this set.
The Swiss Master improved his gameplay in the final set as he committed zero double faults, smacked three aces and had a much better first serve share of 84 percent as opposed to German’s 56 percent. He also registered a
superb 94 percent win on it and produced 10 winners.
The German on the other hand hasn’t had much progress this season and now has to wait for another tournament to display his skills. He triumphed over Kazakhstani Andrey Golubev in three sets in the first round but in this
match, Kohlschreiber stood no chance against the former world number one.
Federer will next face 15th seeded Croat Marin Cilic or Spanish qualifier Pere Riba.
