Roger Federer bulldozes Juan Monaco in fourth round – US Open 2011
Playing at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the world No.3 Roger Federer went off to play his fourth round match of the US Open 2011. The Swiss conquered the New York hard court beating his Argentine counterpart, Juan Monaco, in less than 83 minutes to sit in the quarter-finals.
Federer, the 30-year-old maestro, has been showing off some guts to hang on to the third place at this age. Playing his 11th US Open, the former world No.1 is looking for the final showdown of his career. Having won 5 US Open titles, this would be his sixth if he wins.
On the other hand, Monaco, 27, is currently ranked world No.36, however, the beating he had, seemed like the disparity in ranking was in the hundreds. Nevertheless, he did put on his best effort against the five time US Open champion, though he could not make it out of the fixture successfully.
Blowing up in the starter, Federer served first to open the first set. Playing the former world No.1 seemed much harder than before as the Argentine was smothered in straight games of set1. The Maestro won back-to-back 5 games in the opening set breaking the 27-year-old in game 2 and 4.
With scores at 5-0, Monaco won a breather game, however, could not go all the way. Finishing off with the final game, 7th, Federer pocketed the first set winning 6-1 and onto the next.
Opening up with the second set, Monaco took off high but stumbled down once again. Breaking the world NO.36 twice, game 4 and 7, the Swiss swirled through the second set winning 6-2. Smashing superb volleys and forehands, the former world No.1 grasped an easy win to move on with the third set.
Averaging 118 miles speed on first serve, Federer started off with the decider set. Winning the first game serving first, the 30-year-old went spectacular breaking the Argentine once again and taking the lead 2-0 after game 2.
With scores at 2-0, Federer bombed the 27-year-old with back-t0-back wins in next 3 games and took the scores to 5-0. Serving the final game of the match, Monaco deuced, however, the world No.3 aced to gain an advantage point and ended the match with a forehand swing to win the set 6-0 and the match.
With 5 US Open titles, Federer is now looking forward to break another record, as he looks to clinch his sixth title here. The Swiss now sits in the quarter-final to play Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for the fourth time this year.
