Roger Federer closing on to the number one spot in the world – Tennis Special
World number three, Roger Federer, has put the number one spot in his sight and he wants to reclaim his throne before saying goodbye to the world of tennis. He has never hinted anything about his potential retirement but I believe he will be leaving the
tennis circuit at the time when he becomes the world number one again.
Federer's legacy is undoubted by all tennis lovers and his achievements on the courts are unmatchable. He has all the shots from the textbook and can never be counted out of the competition, no matter what his form is or who his competitor is. He is the
best in the business despite having reached the age of 30.
Top two players in the world, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, have given him a lot of tough time in his career but apart from that, he is always the hot favourite to win the contest. No one in the world has been able to stay in the Top-5 players of the
world after entering their 30’s except Federer.
The Swiss Maestro found love at the court and is married to the lovely lady, Mirka Federer. Both belong to Switzerland, one of the most beautiful places on the planet, and they have been blessed with two cute children, Charlene Riva and Myla Rose. In July
2009, Federer was ecstatic to hear the news of the birth of his twin daughters and confessed that it was the best day of his life.
He is not playing a lot of tennis these days; taking rest consistently to stay fit and avoid any sort of fatigue issues but whenever he returns to the tennis circuit, he is as good as anybody else; instead better than most of them if not all.
This year has been terrific for the legendary tennis icon. He bagged three titles on the trot including the ABN Amro tournament, the Dubai Duty Free Champions and the BNP Paribas Open. It seems like one of the best ever tennis player has found his form back
and looks to dethrone the Top-2 players to reclaim his spot.
He is closing on to the number two spot especially after an early exit for the reigning defending champion of Madrid Open, Rafael Nadal. If he manages to win the title, he will surpass the King of Clay and will be just one step behind from achieving his
goal.
At the moment, he is scheduled to play against the Spanish number two, David Ferrer, in the quarter-final of the Mutua Madrid Open. He is expected to win the contest and advance to the semi-finals to face, most probably, the reigning world number one, Novak
Djokovic, who will look to avoid any upsets against his compatriot, Janko Tipsarevic.
It will be an epic moment for everyone in the world, even the critics of Federer, to see him on the top of the world rankings, once again. I think it’s just a matter of time when Djokovic will be tired of defending titles and Federer will take his spot.
