Roger Federer death threat; security tightened in Shanghai – Tennis news
Hot news is circulating in the media at the moment about the killing threat which the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, received last week. Although it appears to be just a pseudo threat from an unknown hostile of the world number
one tennis professional, the officials of the Shanghai Rolex Masters have taken it seriously and have further tightened the security arrangements for the mega event beginning this week.
An anonymous internet user, with the name of ‘Blue Cat Polytheism Founder 07’ made an online threat to assassinate Federer during his Shanghai Masters campaign. The antagonistic person vowed to do such mischievous act ‘for the
purpose of tennis extermination’ but it hasn’t been taken seriously, except for the Shanghai Masters’ organisers.
The tournament official, Yang Yibin, has reported to the media that the local security personnel have been made aware of this potential threat against the Swiss Maestro and the organizers will assure that such catastrophe do not
happen.
"We hope that it was an oral threat only, and the fan won't take substantive action. However, we have to take it seriously," Yang Yibin cited to the press reporters.
The tournament organizers have released an official statement regarding this issue and have ensured the players and their fans that ‘proper security measures’ have been taken to avoid any inconvenience to the tennis professionals.
''We are fully aware of the comments that have been made and we take all such issues seriously,'' the statement said. ''The Shanghai Rolex Masters has security in place for our players and every precaution is taken to make sure
players are kept safe and comfortable and allowed to do the job they are here for; to play tennis and provide their fans with the thrill of watching them in action.''
Other leading ATP professional players, including the likes of the Serbian Juggernaut, Novak Djokovic and the British number one, Andy Murray, are also featuring the Shanghai Rolex Masters tournament along with Federer. The reigning
world number one will battle out to sustain his top rank in the ATP World Rankings, with Djokovic right behind him to snatch the coveted position he lost to the Swiss this summer.
