Roger Federer delivers caution to his US Open opponents – Tennis News

Swiss virtuoso, Roger Federer, is ever-hungry for his sixth US Open title and has clearly warned his rivals to tighten their screws for the upcoming mega event in New York. The 17-time Grand Slam winner will take off his campaign
at the Flushing Meadows from Monday and is all set to annihilate all his rivals en route to glory.
"I felt good last year, but probably felt that maybe at times the matches were not always in my racquet, whereas maybe this time around I feel like if I'm playing well I can dictate who's going to win or lose," said Federer. “It's
going to take something special from my opponent to win. That's kind of how it feels right now."
The 31-year-old Basel native has returned to his vintage form and is currently having a 56-7 winning record this season, with six ATP championship titles in the bag. With the absence of his arch rival, Rafael Nadal, the US Open
field has become even open hunting ground for the Swiss Maestro. He has said it quite truly that he won’t be an easy for other competitors to take him down on a court which has witnessed his sheer dominance for years.
Federer won the US Open Championships for five successive years (i.e. from 2003 to 2008) and there was a time when he was deemed as invincible at the Flushing Meadows. Age factor has certainly taken a huge toll out of him but the
class of the Swiss genius still prevails and he is right up there on the top of the ATP World Rankings to rule the tennis world.
The 31-year-old veteran will be taking on the unseeded American tennis prodigy, Donald Young, in the opening round of the mega event on Monday. Albeit it will be their first encounter on the ATP World Tour, the 81st
ranked American poses no potential threat to the might of Federer. The top seed Swiss will certainly cruise through the opening round in straight sets and carry on such dominant performance in the rest of the tournament to claim the title he last won in 2008.
