Roger Federer dismisses Yen-Hsun Lu in the second round – Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012
World number one, Roger Federer of Switzerland, overcame the fighting spirit of Taiwanese player, Yen-Hsun Lu, in the second round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Wednesday.
Federer comfortably won the first set but faced a tough competition in the second one. However, he prevailed in straight sets 6-3, 7-3 after playing for one hour and 20 minutes.
The Swiss star came back to action after almost four weeks but with his classy strokes, he did not look out of match practice. This was his first tour level match since playing for Switzerland in the Davis Cup play offs against
the Netherlands last month. Before that, the 17-time Grand slam champion lost to an inspired Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals at the Flushing Meadows.
Coming back to his latest match against Lu, Federer and his opponent held their serve in the first five games to take the score to 3-2 in favour of the former. The Swiss Maestro claimed a breakthrough at that moment and capitalised
on it to win 6-3.
Second set was more competitive than the opener, as both players went on equal terms till the first 10 games to square off the proceedings at 5-5. Federer raised the level of his game when it was required most, as he allowed Lu
to claim only a single point in the following two games, sealing it 7-5.
The Swiss Maestro was uncatchable on his first serves as always, as he banged in five aces and captured 28 of the 30 points on them. In comparison, Lu also hit four aces but the Taiwanese committed five double faults at the same
time.
Commenting on his comeback after a shirt lay off, Federer said, "It's just about getting a sense of how to play the points again, even though it's [only] been a couple of weeks. But my last matches were on clay. You always wonder
if you have lost something in the meantime.”
The Swiss player also commented on Lu’s game and the match against him. He added, "But I'm happy that things worked out well today because I thought Lu played a pretty good match. He's got the game to be really dangerous, particularly
on a fast court like today. I was able to manage. That was a good thing too me, so I'm really happy. He played inspiring tennis at times.”
Federer will play his 13th seeded compatriot, Stanislas Wawrinka, in the third round.
