Roger Federer eager to perform in Stockholm
World number two Roger Federer has said he is looking for a positive end to his 2010 season, having lost the Shanghai Masters final to Andy Murray on Sunday, 17 October.
Federer claimed his fourth Australian Open title in January this year, but failed to defend his French Open and Wimbledon titles from 2009. At the US Open, the Swiss failed to overcome Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
Aside from the win down under, Federer's only title in 2010 was won at the Cincinnati Masters in August, a tournament usually seen as a warm-up to the US Open.
But despite his Grand Slam setbacks and failing to overcome Murray in Shanghai, the 29-year-old said he is eager to perform at the Stockholm Open, a tournament he enters against Taylor Dent of the U.S. on Thursday, 21 October.
"I'm certainly not yearning for the year to be over, I'm very positive for the rest of the season...I had a bit of an off day in the Shanghai final. It's a pity, but Murray pushed me to that. Mentally, I have a lot left for the end of the year."
Shock Wimbledon exit to Berdych
At Wimbledon in July, the Swiss was handed a surprise exit to Tomas Berdych, who defeated Federer over four sets in the quarter-finals, causing the 16-time Grand Slam winner to fall to third in the ATP rankings for the first time since 2003.
"I've played pretty well since Wimbledon. I hope to go deep into this event and hold up the trophy at the end of the week...I was not too tired after Shanghai and didn't have any crazy-hard matches last week, I am confident I'll be in perfect shape when
I start."
