Roger Federer eyeing more brilliance in 2012 – Tennis News
Former world number one, Roger Federer, is aging in terms of numbers but his superiority in the field of tennis has not depleted at all. His stamina might have lessened since his glory days but his eye-startling backhand and forehand
returns are evergreen. He has compiled a 23-3 record this season having won four out of five matches against the Top-10 players of the world.
He has already clinched two titles this season and is building upon that late form of the last season. He two successive title in Rotterdam and Indian Wells having defeated the likes of the Argentine tennis icon, Juan Martin del
Potro and number one Briton, Andy Murray, respectively.
Success in Federer’s eyes is as follows, “I'm a tennis player, [so] I judge success on the tennis court if I'm winning or losing... I love winning tennis tournaments, especially when you put in all the hard work." This is what
he had to say when asked, at the end of the last year, to define success. He is a living legend and has taken tennis to the new heights.
This season the Swiss Maestro is up against some very talented superstars and few arch rivals. He will have to continue his prolific run of form to sustain his legacy. There is no doubt that he can become the number one player
of the world again having already written a golden era to his name.
Brad Gilbert exclusively told ATPWorldTour.com, "He is playing great tennis. No one can rule him out of a return to World No. 1 or adding to his major haul." Everyone respects him, even the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic,
of Serbia has accepted the fact that Federer can dethrone him in 2012.
However, the fight is tough. Djokovic has been able to successfully defend the Australian Open and Miami titles this year that has kept the point’s gap intact; not to forget the Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, who is eager to
win the maiden title this year having lost in the final of the Australian Open.
The focus has shifted from hard courts to clay and all eyes are set at the reigning French Open champion, Nadal, who will look to defend his title at Roland Garros. He is struggling from niggling injuries, lately the knee injury
that might increase few concerns about him. Federer is 900 points behind the Spaniard and a slight mishap of a majestic performance from the Swiss can help him climb one step closer to the number one spot.
