Roger Federer eyeing supreme form in 2012 – Tennis News
Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, is eyeing Major titles this year and is looking to reclaim his throne at the age of 30. He is still out there holding on to that world number three rank and looks to climb further up with some silverwares
this year.
He stated, “I am in a good state mentally and physically. I have had a great run since last year’s US Open; I had not lost until the other week.” Federer was in sublime touch on his return to tennis circuit and maintained a 17-match
unbeaten run by the end of 2011. It is terrific to witness the ever-shining performer of tennis is still hungry for more titles.
Federer further added, “It was a good period for me, and I hope I can get back in winning ways this weekend. Here in Switzerland, it is nice we got home-court advantage, and we will try to make the best of it and see where it takes
us.”
World number three ended up in the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2012. He was up against the Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, who bounced back a set down to win a gruelling encounter. He is preparing up to lead his Swiss
team in a Davis Cup tie against America later this month. Federer looks to be in sublime touch, winning most of his encounters at the moment except the ones that are contested with the two superior tennis icons.
Federer led Switzerland to the only triumph against American team in their four ties winning all his three matches, two in singles rubbers and one in doubles category. Switzerland won that tie in 2001 by a close margin of 3-2.
Swiss Maestro remembered that moment and smiled stating, “2001 was a big win for me and a tough tie within the team for Switzerland, but we came out on top. I think it was my first emotional outburst on a tennis court because I was so exhausted on Sunday after
my singles, doubles and singles.”
It is going to be an interesting battle between the two teams with Federer curious to regain his form and overpowering the strong American squad. If he manages to help his team win another tie, it will be a remarkable performance
especially at such an age where players are usually down and out struggling to revive their form. Tennis fanatics are waiting for the legend to remind them of his supreme form and shuffle the rankings on the top.
