Roger Federer eyeing yet another landmark – Tennis News
Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, is on the verge of registering yet another landmark in the history of the tennis. He is currently playing in the Dubai Duty Free Championships; the tournament he has won four times in his life. If
he manages to win this year’s edition of the tournament, he will become the only man to claim the Dubai Championships for five times in a professional career.
He is the second seed in the tournament, with the Serb world number one, Novak Djokovic, leading the seeds category. He is currently in the semi-finals against the Argentine tennis ace, Juan Martin Del Potro. The Swiss has not
lost a single set throughout the tournament; registering straight sets wins against the French contestant, Michael Llodra, in the opening round and followed it up with a crushing triumph against the Spanish tennis ace, Feliciano Lopez.
He was up against the Russian contestant, Mikhail Youzhny, in the quarter-final of the tournament on Thursday; won the match comprehensively in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to progress into the semi-final stage of the tournament. It
seems like the only player he need to go through is his arch rival at the courts and one of the best friends off the court, Novak Djokovic, but before that both players had to pass one more test before they set up a perfect tie for the grand finale of the
tournament.
In a post-match interview on Thursday, Federer stated, “I just played well on my service games. I think I also have a good focus this week. So I have to keep it up if I want to win the title.” It seems like he is eyeing another
milestone and looking to achieve that in emphatic fashion. He defeated Del Potro in the final of the ABN Amro tournament on 19th February to win the title and he is up against the same man in the semi-final of Dubai as well. He will probably look
to repeat the heroic performance again on Friday.
Federer is on a eight-match unbeaten run at the moment and probably Djokovic is the only players in the draw who can threaten to break his winning streak. We will just have to wait and watch.
