Roger Federer eyes Grand Slam title in 2012 – Tennis News
Roger Federer has ended the 2011 season on a thumping note with three consecutive titles to his name including Paris, Basel and London year-end finale. The new aim for the Swiss Maestro is to clinch his 17th Grand Slam
title in 2012 and that is completely realistic considering the fact that he has regained his supreme form and smashing those eye-startling effortless single-handed backhands in the manner as he used to, during his World No.1 era.
He defeated the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to clinch his record 7th title in Barclays ATP Tour Finals on Sunday November 27th. His outstanding run of 17 unbeaten games in still intact as he starts off the
new season to prolong his winning streak.
Swiss Maestro has set his sight on another Grand Slam title in 2012 that will be another jaw-dropping contest between the likes of World No.1, Novak Djokovic, World No.2, Rafael Nadal, and World No.4, Andy Murray. These players
are expected to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament and provide one of the best encounters for the spectators.
There was an opportunity for Roger Federer earlier this year in French Open when he went head-to-head with Spanish No.1, Rafael Nadal, but wasn’t able to defeat the inform Spaniard. He managed to reach the semi-finals of US Open
as well but again the prolific World No.1, Novak Djokovic, hampered his dream to seal his 17th Grand Slam victory.
While talking to the media representative, Roger Federer revealed his 2012 plans and said “I felt like I played great during these last few weeks and it gives me a lot of confidence for next year. But regardless of how it went
here, I would have been in a good state of mind for next year. And I think that counts for all the other top guys as well.”
According to Federer it was his strongest finish to his season ever and he is proud of his performances towards the end of the season. He further added “Sure, to win grand slams would be nice. I've missed out on a few occasions
now this year, and maybe also some last year. So I feel like it might be around the corner - maybe not. The other players obviously have a role to play in this."
It will be amazing to see the legendary Swiss tennis icon back to his best days and hammering his opponent’s to all parts of the court.
