Roger Federer finds it very hard to stay down to earth – Tennis News
Roger Federer, the 17-time Grand Slam Champion, is still up and running with utmost courage at the age of 31. He is the second best player in the world at the moment after spending a little spell at the number one spot in the world
by the end of the Wimbledon Championships 2012. He has broken the record of Pete Sampras for most number of weeks as the world number one player; stopping at 302 weeks. He was just a victory away from clinching the singles gold medal at London Olympics but
ended up with a silver medal which is itself an achievement. He rocked the show at the exhibition events, earlier this month, especially the visit to Sao Paulo and Paris where the crowd went wild and roared at his orders.
He registered an impeccable record of 74-13 in the latest season; winning six titles altogether. He had a little troublesome time at final of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. He was contesting at his favourite playing stadium,
the indoor hard courts O2 Arena in London, against Novak Djokovic and lost the match in the end. However, a little mishap didn’t change the fact that he is still the guru of tennis.
Living a life of such an esteemed man is always difficult. He is idolized by millions, hence, becomes very hard for him to think of himself as “Roger from Muenchenstein”. In an interview Federer said, “I constantly have to remind
myself where I come from and who I am. I still like normal life, to go back to reality, to be peaceful with family and friends. Then, sometimes, I dive in the incredible life I have. I often think that it’s crazy to have lived some experiences at my age; this
allowed me to grow as person. I’m aware of how much tennis gave me and I have to thank this sport.”
About the holidays after the 2012 season, he added, “When the season ended, I needed to go on holiday and stay for a little far from all. If I had a different job, maybe I’d also do holidays differently.”
The following season is just around the corner. Federer will be first seen in action by no earlier than the midst of January where he will take part in the Australian Open Championship at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
