Roger Federer has no disagreement with Rafael Nadal – Tennis News
Former world number one, Roger Federer, might have different opinion on the ranking system proposed by his arch rival, Rafael Nadal; however, he has no problem at all with Nadal opposing the new blue clay court surface to be used
in Madrid Open for the first time. He is also in contradiction with the tournament officials and wants to play on the red dirt.
The Spaniard recently called it a day off to the post of vice president at Association of Tennis Professionals just because of few differences with Federer. He was proposing a two year, ranking system but the Swiss Maestro wasn’t
in favour of it, so he resigned.
However, talking about the blue clay courts in Madrid Open, Federer said, “I'm against it because Nadal is against it and we would have other options," Federer told Swiss journalist Rene Stauffer. "But tournament director Ion Tirias
has insisted ad nauseam. In the end we said: He does a lot of good things for tennis so we let him go with this one. But it isn't good that he has such things in his hands.
He further added, "I have no idea how this will go. We were against it, Nadal even vehemently and I support him. He fears that a tradition is getting broken and that one tournament director wants to have blue clay, the other one
grey, green or red one.”
It is good to see that two legendary tennis icons have come to an agreement at some phase in their life that might be helpful in decreasing the off-court tension between the two players. The third ranked Swiss stated that he never
had major disagreement with the Spaniard; it is just that he believes the two year ranking system will not help the cause of the game as the one year do. Everyone has opinions and there is no point making a drama out of nothing.
He believes that traditional tournaments should continue in the manner they are played but testing is also necessary in order to bring about changes and keep pace with time. However, at the moment blue clay court is not the right
surface to test players.
No disagreement is still intact between the two players and they are on good terms with each other. Brad Drewitt is the new president of Association of Tennis Professional and both of them happily accepted the decision of ATP.
