Roger Federer has no problems with hectic scheduling of tournaments – Tennis News
Crowding the entire tennis season by scheduling tournament one after another is one of the most talked subjects these days. Players have been seriously affected with the hectic schedule and want ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
to consider their request of reducing the number of tournaments being played in a calendar year.
Roger Federer on the other hand has dismissed any problems whatsoever related to this issue and states that players should stay fit and play every tournament instead of arguing to bring the morale down of other athletes.
Former world number one has maintained a negative stance to any strike that was thought to be planned by the players. Several players are seen in conflict with the scheduling issues and this can be a very depressing moments for
all those fans that are glued to their televisions to witness their stars in action throughout the year.
Reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic was also very unhappy with the hectic match schedule and Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, said that its ‘crazy’ to play this much tennis in one season. Nadal further added that this kind
of tennis schedule will force a lot of players to retire early in their age because the wear and tear that is received by the body with this much tennis around the year is injurious for health.
The Swiss Maestro, Federer, made his point of view clear in front of everyone by saying, “We have to remember that the season has always been long and gruelling. That's what makes tennis so amazing.” Continuing on mentioning what
used to happen in the world of tennis in 19th century, he said, “Just imagine, in the old days most of the top players were also playing doubles."
It was good to see a big gun from the field of tennis stepping against such a selfish claim by the tennis players. Andy Murray was also one of the leading supporters of this propaganda. If someone is struggling by an injury they
are allowed to pull out of tournaments but asking for leisure time while enjoying that much fame and respect is something sub-standard.
Federer further added, “I have always said that the minute you decide or think that you cannot improve is the time that you should stop playing. The good news for me is that I feel like I still have things to learn and parts of
my game to improve, so I am excited for the future."
He is starting his new season preparation at Abu Dhabi, playing Mubadala International tennis tournament. It will be interesting to see how the king of tennis commences his new year and looks to reclaim his throne from world number
one, Novak Djokovic.
