Roger Federer might return to Rio Olympics 2016- Tennis News
World number one, Roger Federer bags home silver medal at London but might be hopeful to regain his lost glory at the Rio Olympics 2016. He faced an unbelievable straight set upset in the final at the hands of the British
number one, Andy Murray, suffering a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4, score line at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
The Swiss Maestro has dominated the tennis courts for the last decade and has formulated new records all the way. A gold medal in this Olympics could have been just a perfect beginning to his ending career, as many veterans
put a rest to their professional careers after 30-years. Despite of the loss he has vowed to come back to the Rio to reclaim his lost title and surprise his critics.
In a press conference after the Olympics finals he said, “I'm not sure yet, it's four years away. I can retire in the meantime and come again! I am not going to do that, I am going to keep on playing. I hope so. I said it
before the tournament that it is not impossible that I could take part in Rio. It is that long of a break. It is not centre in my mind. Of course, I would love an Olympic gold in singles. But I am very happy with Olympic silver in singles, and I already have
the gold from Beijing.”
The Swiss professional is a great sportsman with a thriving tennis passion. The 17-time Grand Slam winner was the hot favourite for the gold medal at the All England Club. He discussed the significance of the London Games
in his career repeatedly before but his dreams couldn’t yield fruits. Federer claims that he is happy with himself as he tried to the best to win the match but in the end of the day, he just came across a better player.
The Swiss professional has shown splendid performance this year, as he rose to the number one rank after defeating the Scot at the Wimbledon Championships last month. He believes that Olympics final was a great victory for
Murray, considering that previously he has never won a Major title.
The best-of-three sets proved to be Federer’s disadvantage as he was unable to pick momentum in the initial rounds. He missed many opportunities against the Brit as he secured zero out of nine break points.
It was truly a great opportunity to watch the Swiss legend’s performance in the Games. He has shown extraordinary zeal in dominating the courts with such sheer grace.
