Roger Federer must perform well in London Olympics to sustain his top spot-Tennis News
Swiss star, Roger Federer, currently tops the world tennis ranking, after he recently secured his seventh Wimbledon title on 16th July 2012. The 30-year-old star’s performance has been remarkable this
season and he keenly eyes the London Olympics. The 2012 London Games promises to make a great impact, as the hardest part in any sportsman’s career is his ability to stay on the top and Federer promises to do so by his great game and durability.
After the Spaniard, Rafael Nadal’s, withdrawal from the Olympics due to his injured knee; Federer has the chance to top the rankings for a grand part of this season. Nadal, however, has not been in form ever since the start
of this circuit and is lagging behind Federer with a hefty point score of 2,170. Hence Wimbledon 2012 has been the Swiss’s prime start in chase of the gold medal.
Currently, Federer leads the Serbian, Novak Djokovic, by a minimal score difference of 75 points. The Serb is considered a dominant performer as he is the former world number one and winner of three Grand Slam titles last
year. Djokovic‘s performance at the start of the season was overwhelming; securing top slot early in the tournaments. Now, the Serb is vigilant to capture all the chances to beat Federer’s game.
Being the favourite player this season, the Swiss Maestro is considered to have an advantage after the Wimbledon. He is the world’s greatest and experienced indoor player, eager to grab glory at the Olympic Games. The 30-year-old’s
experience has made him physically geared up for long tournaments. It will be unreasonable to not position Federer at an advantage, as it’s a grass-court event and the 25-year-old Serbian is a typical hard-court player.
The 17 Grand Slam titles holder said: "It is really an amazing feeling for me to have regained the No. 1 ranking on the ATP World Tour. I had set a goal with my team to try and get back to the top of the rankings, but I never
thought with the depth in the game this year that I would have been able to get it back so quickly. I am extremely proud and honoured to have beaten Pete's record."
The Swiss is passionate to achieve the next bench mark. He further added “I do believe my situation has that little star next to it. Now the Olympic gold is a dream for me.”
Federer is fortunate to embrace the zenith at this particular stage of his career. With hard work he would certainly desire to conclude his year in style and become the supreme athlete in the history of sports for all times
to come!
