Roger Federer not to pair with Martina Hingis in mixed doubles in Olympics 2012 – Tennis News
All the hype about the most devastating pair in the mixed doubles category of the Olympics 2012 has come to an end in despair; Roger Federer and Martina Hingis are not pairing up to form a crowd favourite duo in Olympics this year.
Federer cleared the air by stating, “The only partner I could imagine myself playing with was Martina because she's been such an amazing player from such a young age. She's only one year older than me and in some ways I learnt so much from her about how to play at the highest level for so long. She drove me and inspired me as well.”
It is definitely very disappointing news for the tennis fanatics who were waiting to see one of the most blistering duo back in action, rocking the world with some eye-startling performances in Wimbledon. However, they will witness the legendary tennis icon in action in the singles and doubles category of the tournament. It will be an interesting battle between the top players of the world who will return just few weeks after the year’s most exhilarating Grand Slam tournament, the Wimbledon Champoinships.
Both Swiss tennis icons spoke to each other on phone and Hingis loved the idea of playing together but her body was not in a position to deliver results. She is not in a right mood to play tennis once again and it is better to miss out on a golden opportunity than to injure yourself and ruin all your life.
Federer further added about her talk with Hingis on phone, “It was a good conversation, in a way I'm disappointed but it was the smart decision to make.” The Swiss tennis ace loves playing at the sporting arena of Wimbledon and proclaims that it makes it all more special for him to contest the Olympics. It will be a special occasion for the legend of tennis to add yet another title to his tally. The atmosphere is crazy, people love tennis players and the tournament is special for everyone.
It comes after a break of four years so players don’t feature in these tournaments more often. Hardly someone makes three to four appearances that increase the hunger to win the title. Federer won Olympics gold in doubles category in Beijing 2008. He still eyes his maiden singles Olympics title and it will be a treat to watch someone of his class battling it out for the first Olympics singles gold.
