Roger Federer outclasses Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for title win – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
Swiss Masters Roger Federer re-kindled his spark to crush the home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a breadstick at the BNP Paribas Masters 2011, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event taking place on the indoor hard courts in Paris,
France. He registered a 6-1, 7-6(3) success over the 26-year-old Frenchman to grab his first Paris Masters and sixty-ninth career title on Sunday.
A former world number one Federer put up a solid display of tennis to outplay the French number one on their ninth meeting. He not only extended lead in the head-to-head series by 6-3 against Tsonga but also bagged his third year-to-date
title.
The Swiss Ace unleashed flurry of powerful groundstrokes and slices to go on a five games rampage before Tsonga could hold on. He then held his serve once more to earn a breadstick.
Federer registered impressive stats i.e. he clobbered a better first serve share of 61 percent as compared to the Frenchman’s 55 percent and registered a spectacular 88 percent win on it. In addition to this, he warded off both
breakpoints faced and cashed in half of the four breakpoint opportunities to his advantage.
The Swiss number one kept momentum rolling into the final set and after defending both breakpoints came across, he pocketed entire serves comfortably. Federer also sought a breakpoint opportunity but squandered it. The set eventually
went to a tie-breaker where the Swiss dominated and clinched it with a 7-6(3) score line.
He formulated a slightly lower first serve share of 62 percent in contrast with Tsonga’s 64 percent but again earned a superb 88 percent win on it.
"I'm just really ecstatic to have played so well this week from start to finish," said the delighted Federer. "Basically from first ball struck against [Adrian] Mannarino all the way until the very end here. I couldn't be more
happy. I have had many attempts trying to win Paris Bercy, and for some reason, I wasn't able to win it earlier. But this one obviously feels great and it's a special victory."
The classy Federer is all geared up for his tenth appearance in the ATP World Tour Finals taking place at The O2 in London.
"If I had played better at the start it would have changed things. The key of the match was there," lamented Tsonga. The Frenchman will reach his career high ranking at number six on Monday after making this final showing. He will
also be featuring in the circuit finale.
