Roger Federer outclasses Juan Monaco to reach the semi-finals – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
World number four, Roger Federer of Switzerland, continues with his winning impetus in the quarter-final round of the BNP Paribas Masters, disposing of the 34th ranked Argentine competitor, Juan Monaco, on Friday night.
The third seed Swiss maestro took one hour and twenty five minutes of play to wrap up victory in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to charge into the semi-final draw of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 1000 event.
Federer exhibited his typical aggressive game play once again on the indoor hard courts of Paris, France, to dump the unseeded Argentine from the competition. The 30-year-old Swiss became the seventh player in the history of the
game to register 800 career victories on Thursday and was determined to bag a lot more in future.
“I only heard about it yesterday,” admitted Federer, who have already won 17 Masters Series titles. “It's nice. It's a lot of matches, a lot of tennis [that] I've played - I know that. But I know there are many other players that
have played more tennis than I have. So it's just another win, but it's a special one nevertheless, because 800 is definitely a big number.”
The third seed kept his clean record against Monaco, defeating the Argentine for the third consecutive time in the current season to lead 4-0 against him. Monaco suffered straight sets defeats from the Swiss at Miami Masters and
then at the US Open earlier this year.
Federer fired seven cracking aces and secured 35 out of 43 first serve points in the matchup to come out as the winner. His mighty forehand worked to perfection throughout the competition, nailing forceful winners down the line
to take the better of his opponent in an assertive manner. Monaco posed some resistance in the second set of the match but Federer proved too good for him to contain and always remained one step ahead of him in the competition. The Swiss converted half of
his six break opportunities and suffered just one from his opponent to sail through the quarter-final round with ease.
Federer will next take on the world number seven, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic, for a place in the semi-final of the Paris Masters. Berdych produced an absolute shocker in his quarter-final match, defeating the world number
three, Andy Murray of the Great Britain, in an enthralling three-setter, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, to book a battle with the Swiss maestro in the semis.
