Roger Federer outplays compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinals of BNP Paribas Open
Swiss Roger Federer outplayed compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinals of BNP Paribas Open. Federer defeated his opponent in two sets 6-3, 6-4 to ensure his attendance at the semifinals of the main draw at the BNP Paribas
Open at Indian Wells, California. Swiss Maestro completed his victory in 1 hour and 4 minutes.
The pair has already met each other eight times at the ATP World Tour making their official head to head 7-1 in Swiss Maestro’s favour. The pair’s last meeting on tour came two months back when the two met in the quarterfinals
at the Australian Open with the Swiss maestro emerging successful in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.
Meeting for the ninth time, Federer did not get off to a good start as he hit 54 per cent of the first serves, though he managed an 87 per cent win on it. Wawrinka was better than Federer in this statistic as he hit 57 per cent
of the first serves and won a whopping 92 percent of points on them.  Swiss Maestro managed to save 100 percent of the breakpoints which turned out to the edge for the World no. 2 to clinch the opening set.
The Swiss maestro broke his opponent in the 9th game and sewed up a 6-3 win going one up in the set score.
The second set was all-Federer show. After winning the first set to his lower ranked compatriot, Federer was all set to govern the second set. Breaking Wawrinka in the tenth game, Federer won the second set 6-4.
The second set saw the Swiss Maestro landing 58 per cent of the first serves managing a whopping 93 per cent win on it. His compatriot was much poor as far as conversion of first serves into points was concerned, recording a 70
per cent figure.
Ultimately, Federer was able to wrap up an easy 6-3 victory for himself in the final set.
Federer, emerging victorious today, has improved his year-to-date win/loss record to 15-2. The Swiss will next face world number 3 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. This will be the twenty second meeting between these two players.
Federer leads Djokovic 13-8 in the head-to-head record. However, in their last meeting Djokovic crushed Federer 6-3, 6-3 in the finals of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.
