Roger Federer positive about ATP Masters 1000 events
World number two Roger Federer of Switzerland is hoping to make a positive start to the ATP Masters 1000 events which begin from 9 March, 2011.
Federer recently lost to on court rival Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2011 in straight sets.
Discussing future events, Roger said, “At the moment it looks like [Djokovic is dominating], but [Robin] Soderling hasn’t been playing bad himself if you look at his win/loss record this year; [Andy] Murray was in the finals again at the Australian Open,
so he’s obviously in the conversation as well.
After that, you have guys tearing apart a few of the clay court tournaments in other parts of world. I think the Top 5 players have played really well the last six months. Someone always has to win one tournament. At the end of the day, we’ve been able to
share those a little bit to be honest.”
Furthermore, Roger also said that the hard courts at Miami will be relatively slower. The professional stated that the conditions are going to be different because the ball will fly differently through the air and the surface will on the slower side. He
added that it will be a challenge to balance both elements of the game in Indian Wells as well as in Miami.
Federer was being coached by Switzerland’s Davis Cup Captain, Severin Luthi at the Dubai Tennis Championships 2011. However, he will now be coached by Paul Annacone, former coach of American legend Pete Sampras, at the Indian Wells.
Federer said that he was delighted with the sort of relationship he and his two coaches share considering the fact that they are constantly in touch with each other.
Additionally, the Swiss maestro will be taking a break in Dubai, after which he will leave for California to participate in the upcoming ATP Masters 1000 events.
