Roger Federer rallies past Alex Bogomolov in the second round match – Western and Southern Open 2012
Reigning world number one, Roger Federer is contesting for his fifth title at the Western and Southern Open, held in Cincinnati. He began his tournament campaign by rallying past the Russian underdog, Alex Bogomolov and attained
a straight sets win of 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday.
The Swiss legend told the media in a post match interview, “I'm very happy. It was a quick match, a good one for me. I served well. I was able to play some good points on the offensive, and overall I'm very pleased because
I don't know Bogomolov that well.  I've only played him once, and that was so long time ago I hardly remember. I didn't know what to expect, to be honest.”
He further added, “Obviously the turnaround from grass to hard court might not be an easy one this year. The ball definitely bounces so much higher here and plays much faster than Wimbledon, so it just takes some getting
used to.”
It took the Swiss champion one hour to pocket his victory against in the second round of Cincinnati Masters.
Federer commenced the match by winning his first game and attained a 1-0 score but the Russian bounced back to equalize the scores at 1-1. However, Bogomolov never progressed further in the initial set and the Swiss claimed
all of the next four games, making the score 5-2. The Russian struggled hard to nudge any chance but due to his inability to come to equal power with his rival, he lost the set by 3-6.
The Swiss tennis professional showed flawless serves and bombarded 2 aces, along with two double faults, similar to his contender. Federer was able to convert 15 of the 18 first and six of nine second deliveries into points
in the initial set. On the contrary, Bogomolov could not perform as he expected and lost 11 of 18 first serve points to remain at a disadvantage.
In the second half of the match, the Russian could not pick momentum at all and Federer flew away to a lead of 5-1 until the sixth game of the set. Federer played with a consistent first serve delivery score in the match
with 10 of 12 first serve points and eight of 12 second. The former world 33rd bagged 10 of 20 first and three of six second serve points in the set. Towards the end of the set, Federer made a smashing breakthrough and recorded a 6-2
win.
The Swiss Maestro will be competing against the Tomic Bernard in the third round.
