Roger Federer reaches UAE for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship 2012 – Tennis News
A former world number one, Swiss Roger Federer landed in the United Arab Emirates last week for a number of sponsorship commitments. He is participating for the Mubadala World Tennis Championships 2012, a professional tennis exhibition
event taking place on the hard courts in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Ranked 3rd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Federer was seen at numerous spots in Dubai for sponsorship commitments. He is gearing up for the Abu Dhabi exhibition event taking place at the Abu Dhabi
International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City.
30-year-old shelved four titles this season and is currently standing on a seventeen match winning streak. He cruised at Doha ATP event, the first tournament he played in 2011, and clinched his first title. Despite displaying extra-ordinary
skills and reaching far in every tournament he entered, Federer lost in the final or the semi-final rounds in almost all tournaments he played afterwards. He finally uplifted his game in September and since then he is unbeaten. The Swiss number one triumphed
at Basel, Paris and at the yearend Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Being a finalist last year, the Swiss Master got a quarter-final bye. By playing in this tournament, Federer will build up for the Australian Open, first of the four Grand Slam event.
World number one Djokovic of Serbia has confirmed his participation in this tournament.
“I’ve heard so much about Abu Dhabi and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to see for myself and play here with some top competitors,” said the high flying Serb who is making a debut in this event.
World number two Rafael Nadal is also returning to defend this title. He won titles here twice, is eagerly waiting for this tournament. “Having seen the strength of the field, I’m already looking forward to a serious test and defending
my title,” said Nadal.
The Spanish number one also received a bye into the semi-finals after lifting the title here in its last edition.
Another Spaniard joined the list of the top tennis players who participated in this exhibition event. David Ferrer is seeded fourth here and he grabbed two titles this season.
The top French duo, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils will complete the list of top six players entering at the Mubadala Tennis Championship.
The Swiss Ace will face the winner of the match between top seed Djokovic and the sixth seeded Monfils.
