Roger Federer ready to win the Cincinnati Masters – Tennis News
Reigning world number one, Roger Federer is focusing on winning the Western and Southern Open title for the fifth time in his tennis career. He took a short lay-off after the great Olympic Games to gear up for his next tournament,
which will ultimately, benefit his rankings for the upcoming tournaments.
The Swiss Maestro said in an interview, “The last few years we always had at least a two, three-week preparation for the hard courts. So obviously, I don’t think the preparation is as good as it’s been in the previous years.
I’ve had better preparations, there’s no doubt about it, but it was definitely key for me to take some time off.”
Federer is hopeful of securing the title at the Cincinnati Masters to equal the former world number one, Rafael Nadal’s record of 21 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles and this will automatically make him a top seeded player
for the 2012 US Open Championships. However, the hard courts have always taught him to start at a slow pace and precede the game systematically.
He explained, “Honestly here I play really, really well or sometimes I just play really bad, so that’s why the focus is big in the early rounds. It’s true that once I get rolling here, I do play extremely well. I’ve always
enjoyed coming here.”
The Swiss tennis professional will be competing in 12th tournament this season and previously he won the title in the 2005, '07, and 2009-10. In the year 2008, Ivo Karlovic disposed him in his third
match of the Cincinnati Masters. Further, the former world number one, Rafael Nadal defeated Federer on the hard courts but due to chronic knee injury after the Wimbledon Championship, he will continue his seventh week absence from the tennis courts.
The Swiss tennis ace is more confident to win the tournament after his Olympic loss this year. Federer has been immensely successful on the American hard courts in the past and he hopes to carry on the similar trend in the
coming mega event in Cincinnati. He can surely bag home the victory and mark an emphatic start to his ending career.
