Roger Federer receives two ATP World Tour Awards – Tennis News
Former world number one, Roger Federer, will receive two ATP World Tour Awards this week on court at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, a season ending tournament taking place in London, England. He recently made a record for most wins at this circuit finale
and these rewards will help seal his season in great note.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion, Federer will receive two ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Awards this week. He will receive Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for eighth time. The Sportsmanship Award is selected by tour-level players.
Federer, who re-claimed top rank at the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings after conquering the Wimbledon Champions this season, won the ATPWorldTour.com Fan’s Favourite presented by RICOH for 10th straight year.
The Swiss Maestro is delighted to have so much support and in every corner of the world. Federer also states that the love and support of people is the only reason he is still playing tennis.
The Swiss veteran jubilantly reflected in a press conference:
“I'm very, very honoured, really, and very proud in some ways to be so well liked by so many fans around the world, just not in one particular place or one country. It really seems to be everywhere I go I get a lot of fan support. For me that's a big thrill,
probably one of the reasons also I'm still playing today.”
The Swiss reflected on receiving Fan’s Favourite rewards for record 10th time:
“Ten is an amazing number. I can't believe it's been that long. All I can say is thank you in a big way, and everybody knows that.”
Federer has recently broke Ivan Lendl’s record for most wins at the ATP World Tour Finals after trouncing over the Serbian number two, Janko Tipsarevic. He broke Tipsarevic’s opening serve to bag the opener. The Swiss ace reeled off last six games and pulled
out the victory with a breadstick.
The 31-year-old is looking forward to capture his seventh Barclays ATP World Tour title this circuit. He is also looking forward to conquer this indoor event for the third straight time.
