Roger Federer records another record at the ATP Tout Finals in London – Tennis News
World number two, Roger Federer, registered a new record at the ATP World Tour Finals on Tuesday. He defeated the eighth seed Serb star, Janko Tipsarevic, in the opening Round Rubber clash and that was his 40th win at
the season-end finale Championships. In his 11 appearances in the tournament, he has won six of them and that is itself a record. For the last two years, he is unbeaten at the O2 Arena in London and considering that the indoor hard courts surface is his favourite,
he looks invincible and hot favourite to register a hat-trick of year-end finale titles.
The Swiss Maestro said after the match against Tipsarevic that lasted just 68 minutes, “I’m happy that I feel fine just in time, I still had some little things I had to work through the last couple of days. I’m very happy I played
so well because Janko’s a great player. I’ve had a great year but I hope it’s not over yet. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I’m happy the first one went so well and it takes some pressure off looking ahead in the next couple matches. It’s my third
trip to London this year. The other two were pretty good and I hope something similar is going to happen this week.”
Federer’s 40th win took him above the former world number one, Ivan Lendl, who had 39 wins in the ATP Tour Finals. Lendl who is coaching the third ranked Briton star, Andy Murray, is somehow connected to the ATP Tour
and would like to stop the Swiss Maestro in his tracks by enriching the 25-year-old Briton with some tricky moves that can trouble the Federer.
The Swiss superstar has been struggling ever since his seventh Wimbledon Championships conquest at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in June. He failed to win the maiden singles Olympics Gold Medal at the same location; squandered
the opportunity and gifted a breakthrough to the Briton superstar, Andy Murray, who clinched the gold medal that is one of the prestigious titles in the world of tennis. Federer witnessed a shocking defeat in the quarter-finals of the US Open in New York and
also failed to retain the title at Basel; falling victim to an upset that was registered by the former US Open Champion, Juan Martin Del Potro.
However, the Swiss legend looks unbeatable at the indoor hard courts of London.
