Roger Federer reveals the secret behind his success – Tennis News
Swiss Maestro Roger Federer has said that a balanced schedule is the main reason of his fitness. The 16-time Grand Slam champion thinks that it has helped him in staying away from injuries and super competitive throughout his career.
Federer, who will turn 31 in August this year, has not won any Major since clinching the 2010 Australian Open. Though, the former world number one is committed to regain his lost position at the top of the rankings and has no plans
to retire in near future.
Last season, it happened for the first time since 2002 that Federer was unable to win even a single Grand Slam. However, the Swiss is in supreme form for the last few months. It all started from his home tournament in Basel, where
he crushed Kei Nishikori in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in the final. The right-hander went on to capture two more titles at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Paris and Barclays ATP World Tour Finals to end the season on a high note.
In a rare event, Federer had to withdraw from his semi-final clash against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open due to sore back earlier this year.
The Swiss legend is now again on a nine match winning streak, winning back to back titles at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Federer, who is preparing for his first match at the BNP Paribas Open, said, “I've been feeling good for some time now. I am playing well at the moment, for many months now, and it was nice winning a tournament again outdoors,
not that I needed it but it's a great tournament to win in Dubai.”
The Swiss added, “My body has been holding up well. I don't think I've over-played, to be honest, but I've just played enough. I have to be careful that I do everything right not to get injured. I have been feeling really good
out there.”
Federer expressed that he used to also play other sports than tennis but as he has gone older he has stopped doing so.
He said, "I've done my fair share of mistakes early on and as time goes by you just don't have the same energy level anymore.”
In the next two weeks, the Swiss Maestro will try to capture his fourth BNP Paribas Open crown. He completed a hat-trick of titles from 2004-06 at the Indian Wells.
Federer is seeded third at the event and he is drawn to meet arch rival Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.
