Roger Federer routines through Juan Martin Del Potro to reach the semis – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Swiss tennis genius, Roger Federer, did it again and moved into the semi-final of the BNP Paribas Open by outmuscling the world number nine, Juan Martin Del Potro, on Friday night. The third seed Swiss took barely 69 minutes to
bag victory in straights, 6-3, 6-2, advancing into the final-four of the mega event.
It was already anticipated that Federer will carry out his winning streak against Del Potro and the world number three did exactly the same to stamp his authority over the Argentine once again. The Swiss Maestro bagged yet another
achievement by this semi-final win in Indian Wells; he completed 250 victories at the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 tournaments in grand fashion.
Federer’s sheer brilliance over the Argentine number one awarded him a berth in the semi-final of the Indian Wells Masters for the seventh time and is looking very strong to bag the title for the fourth time in his illustrious
career. He registered his fourth consecutive victory over Del Potro this year, extending his all-time head-to-head lead by 11-2 over him. It was a comprehensive win for the 30-year-old Basel native, who barely sweated in the match to dispose of the world number
nine opponent.
"This was definitely a great match," he said. "I sort of expected myself to come out and play a good match today after the struggle I had against [Thomaz] Bellucci. I don't usually struggle back-to-back days, so this was for me
a really good match against a great player. I'm happy I was happy to maintain the great streak I've got going against him this year."
Federer’s win over Del Potro has set up another highly anticipated contest against his arch rival, Rafael Nadal of Spain, in the semi-final round of the BNP Paribas Open. The two finest competitors in the world of tennis will face
each other for the 27th time, with Nadal winning the 18 previous encounters against Federer. He outplayed the former world number three, David Nalbandian, in a stiff three-setter, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, in the quarter-final round on Friday night to book
a date with Federer in the semis.
