Roger Federer says he is feeling very good – Tennis News
Winner of 16 Grand Slam titles, Roger Federer of Switzerland, has said that he is in a good shape and feeling healthy at the start of French Open.
The Swiss Maestro was in doubt at playing Internazionali BNL d’Italia due to fitness concerns but decided to take part in the end. He lost to reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, in straight sets 2-6, 6-7(4) in
the semi-finals.
Talking to the reporters in Paris, Federer said, “I feel really good. Much less problems than I had through Madrid and Rome. I took three days off after the Djokovic match from Rome and just came here and relaxed and started practising
Wednesday. So I feel right where I want to be a few days before the event.”
Entering the second Grand Slam of the season, the Swiss Maestro leads the ATP World Tour with four titles in this year. Winning his first tournament in 2012, the 30-year-old crushed Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets 6-1, 6-4
in the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament final.
The right-hander won his second successive crown, as he downed the world number four, Andy Murray, in the final of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Playing some flawless tennis, Federer defeated inform American, John Isner, in straight sets 7-6(7), 6-3 in the BNP Paribas Open final to win his third straight title.
The Swiss legend got stunned in the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open and took one month off from tennis after that. The decision proved correct, as he came back to beat Tomas Berdych in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 in the Mutua
Madrid Open title match.
Federer is the second most consistent player after Nadal at the French Open. The Swiss Maestro lost to the Spaniard in three consecutive Roland Garros finals from 2006-08 but defeated Robin Soderling in 2009 to complete his career
Grand Slam.
He said, “Obviously 2009 was very, very special winning here. Just the emotions were ridiculous, and I got amazing crowd support. [It was the] same again basically last year, which was so nice to see. I’m looking forward to it
again this year. It would mean a lot to me.”
Federer also did quite well last year, as he ended Djokovic’s unbeaten run in the semi-finals. However, he once again failed in solving the Nadal riddle at the French Open, losing to the Spaniard in four sets 5-7, 6-7(3), 7-5,
1-6 in the final.
