Roger Federer talks Linsanity – Hails the great success story: NBA News Update
Jeremy Lin, an unknown bench player just three weeks back, has taken the NBA by storm and before being humbled by the Miami Heat on Thursday night; the point guard led the New York Knicks to nine wins in 11
games, very much putting them back in the championship fray.
The Linsanity fever has gripped the sporting scenario not only in America and China/Taiwan, from where Jeremy hails, but across the globe. Lin personifies the most amazing underdog story, the world has seen
in this decade. Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao heaped praise on Lin a fortnight ago and recently Roger Federer, the 16 time Grand Slam Champion and perhaps the best tennis player the world has ever seen, shared his thoughts on the basketball phenomenon.
Federer, himself an ardent follower of basketball, was in New York to promote an exhibition match against Andy Roddick at Madison Square Garden, to be played on March 5 as part of the BNP Paribas Showdown.
"I've heard a bit about it," Federer said. "I think it's quite an incredible story actually. I hope he can come to the exhibition. I think it would be great.”
"This is why I think we all follow sports, because of great stories like this. All of a sudden someone breaks through that you didn't know or didn't expect and you don't know the result was going to happen,
and that he was able to help the Knicks to come through the way he did now is a great thing. I love the New York Knicks. Obviously, having played in that arena as well, it's been amazing for me. I wish the team well and I thought what Lin has done has been
great. I hope to meet him when I come to New York soon."
Federer’s appraisal comes on the same day when David Stern, the NBA commissioner, hailed Jeremy as one of the biggest drawing card he has ever seen in his career. The Harvard Graduate, who went undrafted,
will now feature in Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night.
