Former world number one Swiss Roger Federer has thanked his American Coach Paul Annacone for helping him able to win the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals title.
“After having somewhat of a disappointing clay season, Halle,
Wimbledon stretch, where I wasn't able to win any tournaments and didn't play my best tennis, played a bit passive, it was important that I was able to pick up my game. I started moving better, started feeling well physically and mentally.
I'm sure Paul has helped in this regard,” stated Federer.
Annacone used to work with America's Pete Sampras as well as Federer's Swiss coach Severin Luthi. Aged 29, Federer added that he is around for many years to come and has no plans of retiring whatsoever. The Swiss man is apparently all set to dominate the 2011
tennis season and said that he believes Nadal is also going to fare well.
The former world number one took his career record against David Ferrer of Spain to 11-0, defeating him 6-1, 6-4 in the second set of his opening match at the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals.
Furthermore, Roger annihilated Britain's Andy Murray coming out victorious against the Briton in the following match played between the two. Federer won 6-4, 6-2.
Advancing at the championship, it seemed as though there was no stopping the Fed Express. Roger improved his career record to 3-0 in the robin-round phase, thrashing Swede Robin Soderling 7-6, 6-3 to proceed to the semi-finals of the Tournament.
Additionally, after having defeated Serbia's Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the tournament, Federer faced Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the championship final, where he beat him in three sets to take the year-end title.
