Roger Federer thrashes Olivier Rochus at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open
Current World Number three Roger Federer made short work of qualifier Olivier Rochus in the fourth round of the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open, defeating the Belgian player in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to secure his place in the quarterfinals
of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Series event. Federer took just a little over fifty-two minutes to defeat his opponent.
The Maestro was clearly on top throughout the match, scoring three aces and committing no double faults in the first set. Rochus was unable to challenge him to any break points, though the Swiss player successfully broke his opponent’s
serve once in the opening set. Roger Federer won the first set of the match with an impressive 62 per cent of the total points.
The second set was an even easier conquest for Federer, who fired off another three aces to take an instant advantage over Rochus. The 16-time Grand Slam Champion only committed one double fault, while his Belgian opponent could
not refrain from making two. In addition to this, Federer deftly avoided any break points in the second set while putting Rochus in a tight spot by challenging him to a total of ten break points. Although the Belgian player did his best to fight off these
break points and succeeded 70 per cent of the time, he could not keep up the performance and was broken three times. Federer won the set by taking 30 out of 46 total points to win 65 per cent of the points in the set. He closed the match with a fry.
All in all, the third seed scored a total of six aces in the match and was not broken even once. He committed just one double fault and won a whopping 63 per cent of the total points in the fourth round match. This is his eighth
straight victory over Olivier Rochus, who has never been able to defeat him on the court. The player has won a total of 67 titles and is in the quarterfinal of the Miami Masters with this win in an attempt to raise his wins to 68.
