Roger Federer to take part in Davis Cup tie against America in February 2012 – Tennis News

Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer will team up with Stanislas Wawrinka and Severin Lüthi in the Davis Cup tie against America. Roger Federer publicly announced his participation to the tournament on 7th December and this
shows that he is not ready to quit tennis anytime soon and is looking to pile more victories to his name in the upcoming years. 30-year-old rounded off the 2011 season with three consecutive wins at Paris, Basel and Barclays ATP World Tour Finals to shut the
critics for once and for all.
He wants the strongest team to compete the American team so that they qualify for the next round of Davis Cup in February, next year. He said “It is important that we play against the Americans with a strong team with their best
and maintain as our opportunities."
Roger Federer participated in the Swiss team for the Davis Cup tie against Romania last time in 2004 when they won 3-2 but since then he has been out of action for his country. It seems like he has achieved everything he wanted
and now he wants to repay the love and affection of the people by playing for his nation and making them proud.
Former world number one further added “I am delighted to play against the United States, especially since us home and compete with the generous support of our fans. We had a great last year with the meetings in Bern and Sydney
and the atmosphere and team spirit in our team tremendously well.”
Recently Federer’s arch rival world number two, Rafael Nadal, helped his Spanish team to win the Davis Cup this year and this would have ignited the fire in Federer’s soul and might be one of the reasons he is returning to this
title chase. Federer helped his team to win the Davis Cup in 2001 when they defeated the 32-times Davis Cup winner at his hometown in Basel. It was one of the greatest landmarks for former world number one and that was the start to an emphatic era of thunderous
series of victories that is continued to date.
With the inclusion of Federer in the Swiss squad at his prime form, it is expected to be an outstanding tie, full of power play with some exciting matches on hand. Swiss fans are eager to see their hero lift another Davis Cup title
for his nation and it might be their time when Federer bring backs the memories of 2001.
