Roger Federer trick shot has world debating
He is the most successful tennis player of all-time, but is Roger Federer really a genius with the ball and racquet in his hand?
That is the debate currently circulating around the world, as fans are not discussing his playing abilities on court at the moment in the Cincinnatti Masters. Instead, they are discussing whether a trick shot he has performed for a Gillette advert is real or not.
The 16-time Grand Slam winner is seen on the video hitting a bottle off a crew member’s head with his serve and not once, but twice.
One of Federer’s attributes is his pin-point serve, and although it may not be as quick as Andy Roddick’s, it is consistent and very accurate. Accurate enough to knock the bottle off? Maybe so.
The video clip has received over 3 million views on YouTube since it was posted on August 16th, and it has become the most viewed tennis clip on the site, surpassing the ones where he played a shot through his legs against Novak Djokovic in last year’s US Open and his shot against Andy Roddick in 2006, where he makes a smash shot from outside the court.
Federer didn’t reveal a lot to the press, and when he was asked about the stunt, he said: “Oh, that thing? Yeah. Well, there’s a lot of debate at the moment, you know. You know how it is with magicians. They don’t tell how their tricks work, you know. I don’t do it that much, but, yeah, it was shot in one piece and it was, the guy took a chance. It worked out. I’m happy,” said Federer.
The great man that he is, did technology play its part in the shoot, or did he really perform the trick shot?
The subject is open to debate.
