Roger Federer wants to experience “something special” at Olympics – Tennis News
World number one, Roger Federer, is eyeing a glorious month ahead of his majestic Wimbledon triumph. He has put his sights on the gold medal at Olympics and enters the All England Lawn Tennis Club as the top seeded player with
an expectation of achieving “something special”.
With a Grand Slam title contested on the same surface and won by Federer, it should not be a difficult task for the Swiss Maestro to repeat the heroics again just after a month at the same venue. Federer will commence the fourth
edition of the Games of his career.
He has obtained the honour of leading the troops of Switzerland on the field of Olympics as a flag bearer; in Athens and Beijing. He was offered the same duty this time around as well but rejected the offer because he wanted someone
else to have the honour of carrying the flag.
The Swiss combo of Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka conquered the doubles field in 2008 at Beijing and grasped the first gold medal. However, the pursuit of gold medal in the singles category continues on the fourth successive appearance
at the Games.
Federer commented about the Olympics campaign in the following fashion, "I just made the cut back in 2000. I was still very young then... only 18-19. I was obviously able to make the Olympics. That was a big deal for me. There
were a lot of things that I was able to take away from the Olympic Games. I hope it's going to be something similar this time. I was in central London recently and I did see they were preparing a big square for the Olympics, which I'm sure is going to be amazing."
He will be the top seed at the Olympics that lists him the favourite player to win the championship but according to the bookies the Serb former world number one, Novak Djokovic, is chosen to the hot favourite player to win the
medal with Federer just falling behind him. So, it opens up the stage for both players and many others to claim the gold medal but Federer remains the favourite for most of the tennis family.
