Reigning world number one, Roger Federer, is all set to secure a top seed in the 2012 Cincinnati Masters in New York. The Swiss professional was the silver medallist at the London Olympics in the men’s singles. He received
a straight sets upset to British number one, Andy Murray by 6-2, 6-1, 6-4, and will feature his first match after Olympics at the Masters Series event in Cincinnati.
The 17-times Grand Slam winner turned 31-years after his loss in the Olympics final and withdrew from the Rogers Cup in order to recharge. He is finally ready to practise in the courts of USA for the upcoming tournament.
The Swiss Maestro has been the champion of this particular ATP Masters 1000 title four times, 2005, 2007, and 2009-10. Unfortunately, he was unable to battle past against Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals of the tournament
last year.
This year Federer will begin from the second round of the tournament after receiving a bye in the first. With most of the top ranked contenders pulling out of the tournament after being plagued with injuries, Federer remains
the hot favourite for bagging the Cincinnati title for the fifth time in his career.
The Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, also withdrew from the tournament and the other tennis icons like Fernando Verdasco and Nicolas Almagro followed the trend of their fellow compatriot. However, Djokovic might provide
the Swiss legend a tough competition in the tournament. Currently, there is a great probability that the second seeded Serb might win the Toronto Masters and regain his lost glory with it.
The Scot is the third seeded player of the tournament. He won the Olympics gold medal in men’s singles and secured the silver medal in the mixed doubles. Nonetheless, he is double-minded that whether he so contest in the
championship as his knee demands a fast recovers before the US Open. Murray, who has never won a Major championship, considers his professional tennis career in great ordeal.
The American veteran, Andy Roddick, is also ready to secure victory at his home tournament. He is 16th seeded player this season and previously he was the winner in 2003 and 2006.
