Roger Federer will take on Janko Tipsarevic at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals – Tennis News
Former world number one, Roger Federer, will face off eighth seed, Janko Tipsarevic form Serbia, at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, circuit finale taking place between top eight players in London, England. Federer is coming off from final showdown at
the Swiss Indoors while the Serb retired with illness in his quarter-final clash against Jerzy Janowicz at the BNP Paribas Masters.
Both tennis stars will duel each other for the sixth time with the Swiss Maestro leading 5-0 in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head Series against Tipsarevic. Their last encounter came at the Mutua Madrid Open in May this season
where Federer stomped over the Serbian star with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in one hour and seven minutes. The Swiss blocked the lone breakpoint he came across and cashed three out of five break chances to seal the deal.
Seeded second in this tournament, Federer is in awesome run of form. He recently captured his 17th Grand Slam title after conquering the British number one Andy Murray at the Wimbledon Championships. With this triumph, he also reclaimed his top
rank at the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings. The veteran maintained his intensity at the London Olympics next month and cruised into the title-round. He bowed out to third seed Murray but grabbed the silver medal.
Currently second in the world, Federer kept momentum rolling at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati. He devastated his entire opponents in straight sets and conquered his sixth year-to-date and 76th career title. The Swiss entered his
home tournament in Basel last month and secured a spot in the final round with ease. He bowed out to the Argentinean number one, Juan Martin Del Potro, in gruelling three sets before entering this tournament. Federer squandered all five break opportunities
and saved only one out of two breakpoints he faced, eventually enduring a 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-7(3) loss in two hours and 44 minutes.
Tipsarevic on the other end reached far in several tournaments. However, he was forced to withdraw in his last two tournaments. Tipsarevic retired from the Valencia Open with right shoulder injury and withdrew from illness from the Paris Masters. He made
quick in-roads at the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy against the Polish qualifier Janowicz. However, the Serb stepped off steam due to illness and eventually pulled out from the tournament after trailing 6-3, 1-6, 1-4. Tipsarevic cashed the lone break opportunities
but warded off only half of the eight breakpoints he came across.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion, Federer is likely to record a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory against the Serbian number two.
