Roger Mayweather: Floyd Mayweather will not face Manny Pacquiao after Victor Ortiz – Boxing news
The senior member of Mayweather clan, the Black Mamba, Roger Mayweather has revealed his nephew Floyd Mayweather would not have any fight with the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny Pacquiao after he is done with Victor Ortiz on September 17, 2011.
The undefeated five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather, recently announced his comeback after almost a year against the Mexican-American pugilist, Victor Ortiz, for the World Boxing Council’s welterweight title challenge.
Many were thinking maybe Floyd after this bout, which is scheduled for September with the venue still to be confirmed, will take on the eight-division world champion Pacquiao but Floyd’s uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather has turned down everyone’s hope.
The former International Boxing Organisation Super Featherweight champion, Roger, told the media there would be no Pacquiao-Mayweather fight after Victor Ortiz, as he reckons Floyd should take on a few more boxers before he faces Pacquiao.
He stated it will be not wise if Floyd straightaway goes for the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Pacquiao. He said Floyd needs to be in his best form before going against someone in so much form.
“It would be crazy for Floyd to go in the ring with Pacquiao after fighting Victor Ortiz. Floyd needs fights. He needs to be active.
Floyd needs tune-ups like anybody else. It’s no different than any other fighter, if you are going to compete with a guy who has been active all the time,” Roger said.
In the end Roger, who won 59 of his 72 fights including 35 by the way of a knockout, claimed Floyd is the best boxer in the world. He remarked his 34-year-old nephew, who has won all of his 41 fights including 25 by the way of a knockout, only needs a bit
of preparation and rest he will do what he always does in the ring.
“Floyd is the greatest fighter out there, period. He’s the most skilled fighter out there. All Floyd has got to do is prepare and do the work that he does,” said Roger.
