Roger Mayweather: Miguel Cotto does not stand a chance against Floyd – Boxing news
Roger Mayweather has been quite active recently criticising others and now he lashed out on Miguel Cotto who will be the upcoming opponent for his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Roger Mayweather does not seem to be impressed with his nephew’s opponent. He believes Cotto does not have what it will take to bring down Mayweather.
Miguel Cotto, the WBA junior middleweight champion, previously said he can easily take down Mayweather Jr. since he is well aware of the tactics to beat the latter.
On this, Roger Mayweather iterated, “He [Cotto] ain’t that skilled. He got his a** whopped by [Manny] Pacquiao, so he ain’t that skilled! The only thing I see Cotto can do is punch. Other than that, he ain’t got s*** for my nephew. The only thing he can
do is punch. That’s all he can do, but they all can punch!”
It seems like Roger Mayweather is not really intimidated with Cotto’s abilities since he has faith in his nephew Floyd’s fighting skills. As he has put it, Cotto is a fighter who can hit powerful punches but he cannot make his way through his opponent.
On the other hand, as we all know, Floyd Mayweather is a top-notch super speedy fighter who knows well how to defend himself and how to strike his opponent clean. As Roger has said, Mayweather is excessively quick for Cotto.
Moreover, the fact that Cotto had lost to Manny Pacquiao, who is equally as speedy as Floyd Mayweather, makes it pretty obvious that Cotto does not stand a chance against Mayweather.
Everyone knows that Cotto is a powerful hitter but his power is of no use if he will be unable to reach Mayweather. On the other hand, there are also doubts on Cotto’s capabilities since his last three opponents have been soft fighters. His last fight was
against Antonio Margarito who was already suffering from an injured eye bone. Cotto took the most advantage of the scenario and made sure to bruise Margarito’s eye to grab victory. Even though Cotto was praised worldwide by his fans for his achievement, analysts
were of the view that Cotto did not exhibit good fighting spirit or skills.
With all of this in mind, Roger Mayweather is pretty much sure that his nephew Floyd Mayweather will easily knock down Cotto.
